I hope everyone is having a good week!
Today I want to talk about volunteering, especially if you are a high school or college student, because summer time gives you the opportunity to help others. Whether you have one hour or ten hours, there are so many ways you can give back to your community. In these types of settings, you will be able to share your life experiences, passions, and skills in a manner that benefits others.
Additionally, although volunteering is a generally unselfish act, you will ultimately end up feeling SO GOOD about yourself knowing that you made a difference and positively impacted other people’s lives. It’s a win-win situation.
If you are interested in volunteering in your community, there are many websites you can visit to find exactly which topic you are interested in helping. For instance, http://www.createthegood.org provides ideas and articles on a host of categories, such as Hunger, Environment, Non-Profits, Financial Security, Health and Safety, Seniors, Education, and even Soldiers, Veterans, and Military Families. Furthermore, you can search by keywords and then type in your zip code to find the location nearest you.
Also, http://www.volunteermatch.org is a great resource for finding volunteer information in your community.
